RESTRAINING ORDERS
We represent clients in domestic violence court concerning restraining order matters. Restraining orders, also referred to as Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPOs), 50Bs, or 50Cs, are essential tools for ensuring safety and protection. Our firm is committed to providing knowledgeable guidance and support throughout the legal process.

Nisha G. Williams, founder and managing attorney of the Law Office of Nisha G. Williams, has been serving clients in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area since 2009. From a young age, Attorney Williams knew that she wanted to become a lawyer—one who would help families through difficult and challenging times. At just eight years old, she witnessed the emotional toll of her cousins’ parents’ divorce, an experience that deeply influenced her decision to pursue a legal career focused on supporting individuals and families in crisis.
Since then, Attorney Williams has dedicated her practice to being a compassionate and tenacious advocate for her clients, particularly in family law matters, criminal defense, and involuntary commitment cases. She is committed to providing clear guidance, strong representation, and a steady hand during some of life’s most trying moments. Attorney Williams understands the importance of trust, empathy, and clear communication, and she is always ready to assist those in need of sound legal advice and effective solutions.

Nisha G. Williams is a dedicated attorney with roots in Trinidad & Tobago and a childhood spent in Brooklyn, NY, before moving to North Carolina at the age of 10. Nisha graduated from Shelby High School in 2002 and earned her degree in History from Southern Adventist University in 2006. She later graduated from North Carolina Central School of Law in 2009.
Since becoming a licensed attorney, Nisha has owned and operated the Law Office of Nisha G. Williams, focusing on family law and criminal litigation. In 2018, she joined the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) as a Staff Attorney, assisting survivors of domestic violence in obtaining restraining orders. By 2020, Nisha advanced to the role of Legal Director at NCCADV, where she provides statewide training and advocacy to ensure that survivors receive effective, trauma-informed legal support.
In addition to her work with her law office and NCCADV, Nisha serves as Special Counsel with the NC Office of Special Counsel, representing individuals who have been involuntarily committed.
She is particularly noted for her role as the defense attorney in State v. Berish (2018) a landmark case in North Carolina that established the ability for restorative justice processes to occur prior to trial in violent felony cases, encouraging broader application of such models in the state’s Superior Courts.
With a passion for ending domestic violence, advocating for juvenile justice reform, and promoting racial equity in the criminal justice system, Nisha is deeply engaged in advocacy efforts that aim for systemic change.
